Research Programs
The FAA's diverse scientific, engineering and technical work force
supports all aspects of aviation from basic research on materials to development
of new products and procedures. Activities supported by the R&D
program include:
- Licensing, Regulation, Certification, and Standards Development: Aircraft,
Air Operators, Aviation Agencies, Manufacturers, Aircrew and other
aviation personnel, Airports, Commercial Space Transportation, Environment
- Modernization, operation, and maintenance of the national airspace
system
- Aerospace policy formulation, planning, and analysis
- Effective response to emerging issues and innovations in aviation
safety
- Guidance, coordination, and collaboration across the global aerospace
transportation community
- Identification, exploration, and assessment of emerging technological
and operational concepts
- Assessment into underlying causes of aviation incidents and aircraft
accidents
